Led by Matteo Sorres, a microbiology student at the University of Strasbourg, in partnership with Finck Design, Seulevie upcycles biowaste and industrial by-products (rejected fruit, agricultural materials) through bacterial fermentation to produce nanocellulose, a biomaterial whose potential remains largely untapped. This nanocellulose is intended for a range of biodegradable packaging, designed around short supply chains and low water use, as an alternative to conventional plastics and cardboard. The project draws on a network of local supporters: Biocoop Coquelicot and Agrivalor Énergie supply biowaste for R&D, Atelier CIRCULR provides its equipment for shaping bio-based materials, and DS Smith Recycling helps test the biomaterial against the industrial requirements of packaging.
