As manager of the Atelier des Curieux, a furniture reuse specialist since 2023, Fabien Troussieux faces a paradox: bringing damaged furniture back to life in no more than 30 minutes of work to keep it affordable, when making new furniture from reclaimed materials takes eight hours of labour. With Esilab, which develops a web configurator for customisable furniture, and Innosophia, a specialist in robotic cells for start-ups, the ReFab project is building a robotic furniture-making process driven from a web interface: customers configure their piece online, a parametric model adapts it to the reclaimed boards available, then a robot produces it in around thirty minutes, at a price close to that of mass retail.
