The project reinterprets Kelsch, an emblematic fabric of Alsatian heritage, through a contemporary approach combining textile design, digital innovation and craft skills, so as to preserve the authenticity of this cloth while giving it a new form of expression suited to today’s uses. It is based on creating original patterns designed digitally and then translated into hand weaving with a local weaver, exploring new graphic compositions, colours and rhythms while respecting the constraints of the loom. The aim is to offer a distinctive collection of furnishing fabrics at the crossroads of design, craft and heritage, first sold locally and then nationally. Led by the upholsterer and decorator Marie Froehlicher and the designer Francis Boissenin, the project helps to promote the craft trades.
