Hamelin
Project lead ARTENREEL (Philippe Riehling)

Led by the designer Philippe Riehling (Artenréel), Hamelin is a device based on a litter bin, designed to tackle the spread of rats in public spaces through mechanical traps or the targeted, secure distribution of rodenticide bait. It meets a threefold need: social, as the presence of rats is seen as a sign of poor hygiene; economic, because of the cost of managing populations and the damage they cause; and health-related, as rats carry some sixty diseases transmissible to humans, including leptospirosis. The project combines the biocontrol expertise of Défi-Écologique and the rodent research consultancy Faune Innov with manufacturing by the street furniture specialist Sineu Graff.
